In Paragominas, the bauxite removed goes through the beneficiation stage, which consists of crushing, grinding and classification. The beneficiated ore is mixed with water, forming a pulp that is pumped through a pipeline to the Alunorte refinery, in the city of Barcarena, where bauxite is refined into alumina, the raw material of aluminium.
The pipeline is 244 km long and passes through seven municipalities of the state: Paragominas, Ipixuna do Pará, Tomé-Açu, Acará, Moju, Abaetetuba and Barcarena. In addition, the transportation system crosses the Capim, Acará, Acará Mirim and Moju rivers.
